Life Cycle: Perennial (>2 years)
Identification: Round to kidney-shaped leaves, 0.5 to 1.5 inch in diameter, with round-toothed edges. May be somewhat hairy, borne in pairs opposite one another on long petioles.
Biology: Spreads by seeds and by creeping stems which root at nodes. Prefers moist soil, often found in shaded sites.
Management: Mow regularly to not remove more than 1/3 of grass leaf length at a single mowing, fertilize three to four times each year (late May, early July, early September, and mid to late October)
Herbicides: Any lawn herbicide with 2, 4-D or triclopyr as one ingredient. Apply in autumn or in spring when purple flowers are visible.
